Introduction

Global Forest Watch (GFW) is an online platform that provides data and tools for monitoring forests. This integration through Gundi enables the sending of GFW deforestation (tree loss coverage) and fire alerts from GFW to any supported endpoint system. Currently, EarthRanger and SMART Connect are supported.

Audience

Any EarthRanger or SMART Connect users who wants to receive alerts for deforestation (tree cover loss) and fire events from GFW.

Pre-Requisites

Before you start with the configuration of the integration between Global Forest Watch and Gundi, ensure you meet the following requirements:

General

  • Global Forest Watch account.

  • URL for your area of interest (AOI) in GFW.

The following additional pre-requisites also apply, depending on the system receiving the data.

I. EarthRanger

For this integration to create events on your site, you will need the following:

  • EarthRanger Admin long-lived Auth Token.

  • Create the event types gfwgladalert and gfwfirealert in an Event Category that the Gundi user has access to.

II. SMART

For this integration to create independent incidents in your SMART CA, you will need the following:

  • SMART Connect (version 7+) Server URL.

  • SMART Consevation Area (CA) UUID (which can be found in SMART Connect by going to Conservation Areas and then clicking on the info icon.).

  • Login credentials (username and password) for a SMART Connect user account with permission to access the relevant CA.

Requesting the integration in Gundi

Send an email to support@projectgundi.org with the following information:

  • Name of your organization.

  • Area of interest URL.

  • The information listed in the Pre-Requisites section.
