Join Windows Laptop to Domain
Back up any important data before beginning. This process will create a new network user account you will use to log in to your laptop. If you would like assistance migrating your data to the new account, feel free to contact IT on the #it slack channel for help
Windows 10
Contact IT on the #it slack channel and request they create a VPN profile for you
Make sure you are connected to wifi or ethernet, and once you have received the VPN profile .zip file from IT, extract it.
To extract, right click on the .zip file and click Extract All.
Set a location, or leave the default, and make sure “Show extracted files when complete” is checked
A new file explorer window will open
Run “AI2 VPN Installer” from your extracted files
A message may pop up saying that Windows protected your PC. Click “More Info”
Then click “Run anyway”
A message will prompt you to to allow this app from an unknown publisher to run: Click Yes
Click OK on the VPN Installer Setup page
A message will pop up stating “You have now installed the Allen AI VPN”
Click the internet icon at bottom right in your taskbar. It may appear as the wifi icon or as a computer monitor with a network cable
If you encounter the globe icon, please connect to wifi or ethernet
Click “Allen AI VPN,” then click Connect
The VPN status will briefly say “Verifying your sign-in info” then will say Connected. Give it 5-10 seconds to connect.
*Troubleshooting* If after 30 seconds, it still is trying to verify your credentials, reboot and repeat steps 7-8
Once Allen AI VPN says connected, run the Join AI2 Domain file you received
You may again see that Windows has protected you, click “More info” > “Run anyway”
You will again be prompted to allow an app from an unknown publisher, Click Yes
Click OK to Join the Domain
Enter in your Okta username and password, then click OK
Once the process has completed, you will see a confirmation that your machine has been joined to the domain, click ok and your system will reboot after a minute
After rebooting, you will see a new icon on the login screen, the Network sign-in icon
Click the Network sign-in icon and enter in your Okta username and password and hit enter
This will connect you to VPN and sign you in to your AI2 active directory account
Going forward, you will be able to sign in to your account using your Okta credentials at the sign in page, but after each reboot you will need to sign in by clicking the Network sign-in icon.
Windows 11
