Note

Back up any important data before beginning. This process will create a new network user account you will use to log in to your laptop. If you would like assistance migrating your data to the new account, feel free to contact IT on the #it slack channel for help

  1. Make sure you are connected to wifi or ethernet, and run the “1st - Connect to AI2 VPN” package

  2. It will prompt you to to allow this app from an unknown publisher to run: Click Yes

  3. Click OK on the VPN Installer Setup page

  4. A message will pop up stating “Your VPN has been configured! Welcome to Allen AI! Your computer will restart in 1 minute.” Make sure to save anything you have open, then click OK and your computer will reboot after one minute

  5. At the login screen, log back in normally, then clickthe internet icon at bottom right in your taskbar. It may appear as the wifi icon or as a computer monitor with a network cable

    1. If you encounter the globe icon, please connect to wifi or ethernet

  6. Click “Allen AI VPN” at the top of the menu, then click Connect

  7. Enter in your Okta username (your username without @allenai.org) and password when prompted

    1. *Troubleshooting* If you accidentally click outside of the credential prompt, or click cancel, the VPN login prompt doesn’t know the credential window has disappeared and will not re-present the credential prompt when you click connect. If VPN says “Action Needed” and doesn’t allow you to enter your credentials when you click Connect, simply log out and back in and repeat steps 7-8

  8. The VPN status will briefly say “Verifying your sign-in info” then will say Connected. Give it 5-10 seconds to connect.

    1. *Troubleshooting* If after 30 seconds, it still is trying to verify your credentials, reboot and repeat steps 7-8

  9. Once VPN is connected, run the “2nd - Join AI2 Domain” package

  10. You will again be prompted to allow an app from an unknown publisher, Click Yes

  11. Click OK to Join the Domain

  12. Enter in your Okta username and password, then click OK

  13. Once the process has completed, you will see a confirmation that your machine has been joined to the domain, click ok and your system will reboot after a minute

  14. After rebooting, you will see a new icon on the login screen, the Network sign-in icon

  15. Click the Network sign-in icon and enter in your Okta username and password and hit enter

  16. This will connect you to VPN and sign you in to your AI2 active directory account
