Entry Events

Jump to Training Videos

Entry Events are real-time detections of AIS-transmitting vessels entering an area of interest (AOI). This can be helpful for tracking vessel entries into an EEZ, port, fishing zone, or other regulated area that requires authorization.

Clicking onto an entry event spotlights the event with a blue circle, opens the event details card and displays 48 hours of tracks before and after the event. The vessel’s last known position is displayed with a pink dot.

Area Size Limits

Areas larger than 1,000,000 sq km cannot be configured for entries- if your area is larger than this limit we recommend breaking the area up into smaller sections (e.g. northern half, southern half)

Multiple entry events

The first entry into an area triggers an Entry event. Transmissions captured in the area after the initial entry will be displayed in the tracks of the vessel, but not recorded as new entry events. A new entry event will be triggered if:

  • A vessel exits and re-enters the same area

  • It has been 30 days since a vessel last transmitted its position inside the area and it starts to transmit again from within the area.

A vessel will generate Entry events whenever it enters any area that has been enabled to monitor Entry events. If you have overlapping areas enabled for entries, you might experience the same vessel entry position recorded in multiple Entry events.
